COMMANDER Security Forces, Wanni (SFHQ - W) Major General Kamal Gunarathna handed over five colour TVs, five DVD players plus antennas and boosters to Major General R.M Daya Rathnayake, Commissioner General of Rehabilitation for the use of former LTTE child combatants under rehabilitation on Thursday (10) during a brief ceremony held at SFHQ - W auditorium.
The donation, worth about Rs 6 lakhs has been organized as part of the second phase of a series of Army donations, being made from donations, collected from all ranks in the Army as a token of goodwill and reconciliation. All those equipment are to be used for educational and recreational purposes, conducted for youth under rehabilitation.
The citation that has been prepared for the donation read as follows; ‘Prabhakaran who destroyed your future for his Eelam dream allowed his son and daughter to live luxurious lives while you were directed to take arms for terrorist violence. Army humanitarian operations however salvaged you at the eleventh hour and made you to process through rehabilitation. All of us in the Army after donation of our day’s salary towards your rehabilitation and its cost wanted to contribute in this manner’.
Several thousands of those in the Child Rehabilitation Center at the co-operative building in Vavuniya, Male Rehabilitation Center at Technical College, Vavuniya and Female Rehabilitation Center in Pompaimadu are expected to use these equipment on the instructions of Major General R.M.D Rathnayake. Earlier, a similar consignment was donated by the Army to be used for the same purpose and the Army expects to continue such gestures in the future too, the ceremony was told.
