Artillery Regiment Seva Vanitha Offers Scholarships to Children of War Hero Families

ARTILLERY Seva Vanitha Unit organized a simple ceremony to offer scholarships to the children of War Heroes who sacrificed their lives or lost their limbs to protect the country. The ceremony headed by Mrs. Manjulika Jayasuriya, President Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB) was held at the Regimental Centre Auditorium on 14th November morning.

 The scholarships were received by 21 children of War Hero families while 18 disable War Heroes received commode sets.  Further, 4 wheel chairs, 4 crutches and 5 artificial limbs were also distributed among disabled War Heroes. Coordinated by Mrs. Champika Sudasinghe Secretary, Artillery Seva Vanitha Unit, Dr. Indika Vidanagamage of Homagama Hospital and its staff members sponsored 8 commode sets and 5 crutches. Another 5 commode sets  were sponsored by Mrs. Lali Kobbekaduwa and 2 more artificial limbs were sponsored by the relatives of Mrs. Pushpa Liyanage, President Artillery Seva Vanitha Unit. Expenditure for all other donations were borne by the Artillery Seva Vanitha Unit. The Artillery Seva Vanitha Unit also donated accessories for the billet of disable soldiers at Artillery Regiment and monetary donations were made for 2 War Hero families to get medical treatment. A donation of Rs. 2,000,000/= for the SVAB’s Wellness Resort project was also provided at the same time.

Major General J.J.P.S.T Liyanage, Regimental Commander of Artillery Regiment, Officers, Other Ranks, donors and parents of scholarship recipients were also present on the occasion.
