Army Tattoo Culminates 60th Anniversary Celebrations

THE year’s mega spectacle, Army Tattoo that displayed undisputed skills of the Sri Lanka Army drew to a close Friday (23) evening bringing  Army’s 60th Anniversary celebratory events to culmination.

People in their thousands flocked to the Kettarama stadium everyday to witness this grand show full of gallantry, stunt riding, acrobatics and heroic performances coupled with cultural displays by the Army since the day it was declared open by His Excellency the President Mahinda Rajapaksa on Saturday (17).

President’s Secretary Mr. Lalith Weeratunge, the Chief Guest of the final day ceremony was received by Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya at the VIP entrance who conducted the Chief Guest to the flag post.

Hoisting National and Army flags was followed by two minute silence in honour of fallen War Heroes who will ever be remembered by the island nation for their supreme sacrifice made in the battlefield to secure a unified motherland free of terrorism for future generations.

The show began with thirty para troopers of Army Commando Regiment, Special Force and Air Force including three airwomen landing the venue from a height of 7000 ft amidst thundering applause of house-full crowd.

Simulation attack on LTTE ditch cum bund, rescuing of Puthumattalan civilians from LTTE grip, stunt riding by Signal Corps, Service Corps and Military Police and performances by Army-trained dogs were among the events that drew overwhelming attention of the spectators.

The mega show came to an end with dazzling firework display.

A galaxy of VIPs, senior serving and retired military officers, service personnel and a large crowd of civilians witnessed the culmination of the Army Tattoo.
