NORTH & EAST: TROOPS with the intention of clearing former LTTE strongholds in MURMUDDAI, PUTHUKKUDDIYIRUPPU, IRANAPALAI, KAPPUKULAM and MULLAITTIVU areas conducted searches for another day on Wednesday (21) and found thirty-eight anti personnel mines, a large stock of weapon parts, twenty-five 60 mm mortar bombs, fifteen cans containing 210l of kerosene oil, one Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG), thirty rounds of 12.7 ammunition, one hundred rounds of Multi Purpose Machine Gun (MPMG) ammunition and one 81 mm mortar base plate.
Meanwhile, on information received by the Army Intelligence, troops recovered two missiles and one MPMG barrel, kept concealed in PUTHUKKUDDIYIRUPPU area on the same day (21).
In the meantime, a Police team attached to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in VAVUNIYA following information received, uncovered a 120 mm mortar launcher without its site and two thousand electric detonators from THARAVIKULAM area in the east during a search operations on Wednesday (21). All of them had been kept concealed inside an abandoned structure.
