NORTH & EAST: ARMY TROOPS clearing former LTTE strongholds in PUTHUKKUDDIYIRUPPU, AMPAKAMAM and NAVATKULAM, areas conducted search and clear operations on Thursday (22) and found one 130 mm artillery shell, twelve 60 mm mortar fuses, three remote controllers, three 60 mm mortar bombs, one hundred rounds of Multi Purpose Machine Gun (MPMG) ammunition, eighteen T-56 magazines, one T-56 weapon, two hundred and eighty-eight anti personnel mines, one television, one VCD player, one UPS, five LTTE uniforms, two LTTE caps and eleven photos.
Meanwhile, search and clear operations were conducted by Army and Special Task Force (STF) troops and Police in NARAKAMULLA, PANKUDAVELI and ILUKKAVELI areas under the 23 Division in the east and recovered five hundred and ninety- eight anti personnel mines, six hundred anti personnel mine fuses, five Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) launchers, five General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMG), two 12.7 mm weapons, one silencer weapon, one GPMG tripod, twenty-six 40 mm grenade launcher parts, two FNC weapons, fifteen T-81 weapons, one 40 mm grenade launcher, one commando mortar, one hand grenade and a large stock of weapon spare parts, the same day (22).
