Eastern Resettlement Completed

RESETTLEMENT of civilians in the east displaced due to terrorist activities of the LTTE is now in progress under the government’s “Negenahira Navodaya” programme.

One hundred and thirty civilians of forty two families who had been temporary housed at Akkaraipattu Paddy Stores were re-settled in villages under Akkaraipattu, Chavalakadai, Thirikkovil, Samanthurai and Kalmunai Police Divisions between 23rd August and 5th September with the assistance of troops in the east.

Similarly, three hundred and thirty members of one hundred and sixteen families who were living at Batticaloa Sinhala Maha Vidyalaya and Kurukkalmadam Kalaimagal Maha Vidyalaya transit camps have been already re-settled in Kaludaveli, north Kennathurai, Eravurpattu and Kalawanchikudy areas.

Meanwhile, Kalaimagal Maha Vidyalaya transit camp was closed after the remaining eighteen civilians of six families were taken to Batticaloa Sinhala Maha Vidyalaya until they are sent to their own villages under development at the moment.
