VAVUNIYA: AN ORGANIZED attempt by a group of aggressive men at the MENIK FARM Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) relief village to forcibly enter into the Zone-2 from Zone-1 was thwarted by the security forces personnel on sentry duties Saturday (26) afternoon.
When the troops prevented the forcible entry of the crowd which was swelling in number, they began to attack the sentries with clubs and stones and turned more violent.
Meanwhile, one of them attempted to throw a hand grenade at the security forces who were completed to open warning fire to disperse the mob.
However, two men among the crowd sustained injuries due to fire opened by the troops in self defence and were admitted to CHEDDIKULAM hospital for treatment.
Police later arrested nineteen persons who provoked the crowd to resort to violence.
