PHYSICAL FITNESS stimulated by high morale of our soldiers was one outstanding factor that helped the Army record victories one after the other during the recent humanitarian war. Security Forces Headquarters East (SFHQ-E) not allowing it to die down even after the war was over, recently organized a novel competition to select the strongest teams of the tri services and the Police personnel serving the east.
Thirty-four teams of eight men, one officer and seven other ranks, representing three armed forces, Police and Civil Defence Force exhibited their physical strength during this competition consisting of five challenging events.
Moving of stretchers heavily laden with sand bags to different locations, pushing unibuffel vehicles to a distance, lifting and carrying six members of the team to a 25 m distance by the remaining two members of the team were among the challenging events that demanded highest degree of physical strength.
Considering the average marks obtained by competitors, the team representing 24th Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) was adjudged the winners. The 2nd (Volunteer) Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment team and the 8th Gemunu Watch team respectively won the second and third places.
The Commander SFHQ-E Major General Srinath Rajapakse graced the occasion as Chief Guest.
Senior Officers of the Armed Forces, Police, Special Task Force and the Civil Defence Force were present.
Awards were given to winners at the end of the proceedings by the SF Commander and Senior Officers of other services and the Police.
