Villagers Resettled in Navatkuli, Kaithady &;amp; Maravanpulavu

SOCIAL SERVICES and Social Welfare Minister Douglas Devananda said that efforts made by him to resettle villagers from Navatkuli, Kaithady and Maravanpulavu villages in the Jaffna peninsula had borne fruit and he was happy that the people were now resettled in their original places of residence.

A ceremony to mark the re-settlement of the displaced from Navatkuli, Kaithady and Maravanpullavu villages in their own homesteads, was held opposite the Navatkuli Murugan Temple under the patronage of Minister Douglas Devananda, and Mr. Sethumathan President of the Thenmarachchi Multi Purpose Co-operative Union.

The minister addressing the large gathering stated that the untiring efforts taken by him to re-settle the people displaced from these villages about 10 years ago in their homesteads had now borne fruit and that he was personally happy about the achievement, so soon after ending the scourge that had brought untold misery to the Tamil people.

Speaking further, the minister said that, since the Security Forces had now moved away from their farmlands, the villagers could look forward to recommence farming activities with the support of the government.

Electricity, potable water, transport and other facilities needed by them would soon be made available to the resettled, the minister added. He also made it a point to thank President Mahinda Rajapaksa on behalf of the Tamil people for freeing them from the jaws of terror that had reduced the Tamil Community to a very pathetic state.

The Thankilappu-Chavakachcheri road that had been closed for the past 10 years was re-opened for public use by the minister.

Mr. Srinivasan Divisional Secretary Chavakachcheri Divisional Secretariat Division, Mr. Patrick Niranjan Assistant Commissioner Agrarian Services, “Grama Niladharis” serving in the area, Security Forces personnel and many others attended the occasion.
