Giant Tank Renovation Work Assisted by Army in Full Swing

THE renovation work on the largest tank ‘Yodawewa’ (Giant Tank) in the Mannar “Rice Bowl” began recently under “Uthuru Wasanthaya” development programme of the Government is in full swing.

This huge tank with a water capacity of 9545 m3 has remained abandoned and dilapidated since 1892 until the menace of terrorism was ended in May 2009. This ancient tank can pump its water to more than 162 small lakes in the areas surrounding the Rice Bowl.
