Second Consignment Bought from Soldiers' Salaries Distributed Among the Displaced

A CONSIGNMENT of essentials, bought with one-day salary donation of the soldiers for distribution among displaced civilians in Relief Camps was given away to children and pregnant women, housed in Jaffna Relief Camps during a simple ceremony organized on the instructions of Major General G P R De Silva, Commander Security Forces, Jaffna.

All Army personnel following a directive from Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya donated their one-day salary for purchase of essentials to displaced people in Wanni and Jaffna. The Army collected Rs. 3.8 million through this worthy gesture and Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army distributed the first segment of those essentials during a recent visit to Wanni, Security Forces Headquarters.

27 infants of less than one year, 47 babies of 1-2 years of age, 73 children of 2-5 years of age and 110 children above 5 years housed in the Relief Camp at Kodikamam mixed school received those gift parcels that contained infant milk packets, milk powder, baby soaps, cereals, baby cream, powder, cologne, drawing books, commodes, school accessories, pens and pencils, etc. A total of 302 families were benefited in the campaign. 

On the same day, 156 infants of less than one year, 62 babies of 1-2 years of age, 358 children of 2-5 years of age and 492 children above 5 years belonging to some 1655 families, housed in the Ramavil Relief Camp received those gift parcels that contained infant milk packets, milk powder, baby soaps, cereals, baby cream, powder, cologne, drawing books, commodes, school accessories, pens and pencils, etc. 

Brigadier S D P Liyanage, General Officer Commanding, 52 Division and Commander 522 Brigade Colonel D M S B Bandara actively participated in both instances.
