SRI LANKAN expatriates in Australia organized under Old Anandians' Association in Victoria, Australia donated 1130 sleeping bags/journey mattresses, worth some Rupees 1.3 million for the use of soldiers in the Sri Lanka Army. This donation was made possible due to initiation and coordination by Colonel (Retd) Kalinga Gunarathne who is now residing in Australia. Having learnt the requirement of the Army, they came forward to donate these sleeping bags.
The donation was handed over to the Army at Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (SLEME) camp in Slave Island on 2nd July 2009 afternoon by the President, Old Anandians' Association in Victoria, Australia Mr. Asanka Kodikara who is currently in Sri Lanka. It was received by the Chief of Staff, Sri Lanka Army Major General G.A. Chandrasiri on behalf of the Commander of the Army.
