THE Commando Regiment of the Sri Lanka Army that bears the motto ‘There is nothing that cannot be achieved’ has proved it has the best among the best of war heroes in the country’, Regimental Commander and Eastern Province Military Commander Major General S.M. de A. Rajapakse said.
Maj. Gen. Rajapakse was speaking at the passing-out ceremony of seven Lieutenants and 468 soldiers recruited to the regiment. The ceremony was held at the Pandulagama Army camp grounds in Anuradhapura recently. The recruits were trained at the commando training camp at Uva Kudaoya, Thanamalwila.
At the end of the Guard of Honour, Lieutenant G.S.M. Welagedara and Second Lieutenant R.M.A.K. Ratnayake received their awards as the best gunman and the most all-round soldier from the Major General amongst several others who proved their talents during the training.
Major General Rajapakse addressing the ceremony said the onus of protecting the important personalities including the President holding the highest position in the country had been entrusted on the commando regiment which had fulfilled its responsibilities to the letter until the annihilation of terrorism.
