FULFILLING a long-felt need of the people in Vakarai, Bank of Ceylon (BoC) recently opened a new branch there for all kinds of banking services and requirements including foreign transactions.
Chief Minister for Eastern Province Sivaneshathurai Chandrakanthan, Provincial Councilor, Skandha Raja, Chairman Vakarai Pradesiya Sabha K Ganesh, Divisional Secretary Rahulanayagee, Regional Manager BoC K.T Karunarathna and 233 Brigade Commander Lieutenant Colonel T.D. Weerakoon attended the opening ceremony of the new Vakarai BoC branch Wednesday (24) morning.
Opening of the BoC branch in Vakarai area which has now returned to complete normalcy after it was liberated by the Army from LTTE terrorists enables the people in the region to receive loans for agriculture and fishing at low interest rates.
BoC was the first bank to open a branch in the area.
The same day, representatives from the CIC, a Colombo-based leading company, conducted a workshop on poultry farming for sixty ex-combatants who had deserted the LTTE and surrendered to the Security Forces.
