BATTICALOA: FOLLOWING information, a special Police team from COLOMBO supported by the VAKARAI Police unearthed a stock of weaponry buried near TRACTOR JUNCTION in VAKARAI on Wednesday (24) evening.
Weapons and other items had been buried by Tigers before the area fell under the Army troops who liberated the EAST from LTTE terrorists.
The recovery included one 120 mm mortar, thirty four T-56 weapons, seventy eight magazines, two Light Machine Guns (LMGs), four LMG drums, one (Multi Purpose Machine Gun) MPMG, one 12.7 mm gun mount, four antennas, eight MPMG links, eight LMG links, one hundred 1.5 V batteries, fifty pen torch batteries, one modified T-81 LMG, seven hundred and fifty rounds of T-56 ammunition, one 12 V battery, one antenna wire roll and nine motorola hand sets.
The same day, BATTICALOA troops recovered one T-56 weapon and twelve 82 mm mortar bombs from MURUGAN KOVIL and KARUWALAPODDAI areas.
