EAST: ARMY troops on search and clear operations in the general areas of UPPUWELI in TRINCOMALEE and KARUWALAKODDI in BATTICALOA recovered one 3 kg claymore mine, 500 g of C-4 explosives, one detonator code of 50 m, eighty-eight 82 mm mortar bombs and twenty-seven hand grenades on Monday (22).
In the meantime, troops on continuous search and clear operations in WANNI areas recovered some more LTTE stocks of weaponry hidden in different locations on Monday (22).
Out of them, two gas masks, two anti personnel mines, one hand grenade, three 12.7 guns were found from VISUAMADU while two jackets, three T-56 magazines, one helmet and one 81 mm mortar bomb were found from OLUMADU.
The same day, troops recovered two T-56 weapons, one T-56 magazine, one 9 mm pistol, ninety-one anti personnel mines, fifty 81 mm bombs, forty-eight hand grenades, thirty-eight 60 mm mortar bombs, two Rocket Propelled Grenades, two Outboard Motors (OBM), three shotguns, six 81 mm para bombs, three 81 mm white phosphorous bombs, two 81 mm mortar bombs, thirty six 60 mm bombs, one Arul bomb, one 40 mm grenade launcher cartridges and twenty-four 60 mm mortar bomb fuses from the general areas of PUTHUKKUDIYIRUPPU west, PUTHUMATTALAN and VELLAMULLIVAIKKAL.
Meanwhile, troops recovered five booby traps, one 40 mm grenade launcher, two 60 mm para illuminators, seventy-one anti personnel mines, one detonator, nine 60 mm mortar bombs, four-thousand-seven hundred and twenty rounds of T-56 ammunition , three anti aircraft missiles, three T-56 magazines, one small claymore mine, four 60 mm mortar air burst bombs, fifteen 60 mm mortar bomb fuses and one RPG bomb from PATTIKKARAI area.
During another search operation conducted by the troops in UDAYARKATTU area, ten-thousand-seven hundred and seventy-six rounds of GPMG (General Purpose Machine Gun) ammunition, fifteen hand grenades, one 81 mm mortar bomb, ten detonators, three RPG bombs, one OBM , seventy-one area maps and five anti personnel mines were found.
