THREE Rohingya men in Thailand have been arrested and found to have been involved in arms trade with the Tamil Eelam rebels in Sri Lanka and the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the United States.
The three are identified as Mohammad Ali Hussien, Babuji or Mohammad Madbahem, and Chubri Awae.
They were arrested in a coordinated operation of the Armed Forces Security Centre, National Intelligence Agency, Royal Thai Police, and Department of Special Investigation.
Pol Col Tawee Sodsong, the DSI director-general said his office has evidence to prove that these Rohingya men had links with a group of influential persons in South Thailand. Mohammad Ali Hussien was the leader of a transnational criminal gang involving in trade of counterfeit official travel documents and arms trade with the Tamil Eelam rebels in Sri Lanka. He also provided counterfeit documents for members of the al-Qaeda group to conduct the 9/11 terrorist attacks in the United States, he said.
Mohammad Ali Hussien fled to Malaysia where he was arrested and jailed two years on charges of being detrimental to security. After his release, he came to Thailand and established contacts with war weapons and drug traders as well as insurgents in the South, Pol Col Tawee said.
