Former MS &;amp; Two More Further Detained for Aiding LTTE

CRIMINAL INVESTIGATIONS DEPARTMENT (CID) detectives produced former Medical Superintendent (MS) for Kilinochchi Hospital and  two other personnel, attached to the LTTE’s medical wing before Chief Magistrate for Colombo Mr. Nishantha Hapuarachchi for inspection.

Dr. Thangamutthu Sathyamoorthi, former MS for Kilinochchi Hospital, Kandaswamy Thurai Kethish, claimed to be the LTTE’s medical wing Head and Ms Arumugam Jayalakshmi, an LTTE female nurse, now in CID detention were thus produced by investigators for Court’s observation. They were re-remanded on detention orders issued by Ministry of Defence on 12th June 2009 after CID officials submitted their reports.

The detainee, Thangamutthu Sathyamoorthi, an MBBS degree holder was formerly the MS for Kilinochchi Hospital when the humanitarian mission was in progress. Kandaswamy Thurai Kethish, pretended to be a Medical Officer after he received education from an LTTE medical school has served the LTTE Sea Tiger wing along with the nurse, Arumugam Jayalakshmi. They are held on charges of aiding and abetting terrorism while humanitarian operations were on. All three were arrested in Kilinochchi and detained for investigations, Court was told.

Court after inspecting all three detainees directed CID officials to produce them again in a month’s time as investigations were still processing.
