More Weapons, Ammo &;amp; Explosives Emerge as Clearing Operations Continue

WANNI: TROOPS conducting search and clear operations in the WANNI areas on Friday (12) uncovered some more LTTE weapons, ammunition and explosives from different locations in MULLAITTIVU, KILINOCHCHI and VAVUNIYA.

     Sixteen Light Machine Guns (LMG), forty-eight T - 56 weapons, four T - 81 weapons, one Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG), one Multi Purpose Machine Gun (MPMG), three pistols, one General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG), seven RPG bombs, forty five RPG chargers, six area maps, three anti personnel mines, fifteen magazines, seven RPG launchers, twenty-one 60 mm mortars, one 5 kg claymore mine, one flack jacket, four hand grenades, seven silencer weapons, four signal pistols, two 9mm pistols, one 0.22 LR pistols, three 40 mm grenade launchers, six T-97 weapons and one 0.22 weapon were found by the troops serving in the general areas of PUTHUHUDIYIRUPPU and VELMULLIVAIKKAL in MULLAITTIVU and VAVUNIYA.

     Meanwhile, troops observed a few terrorists hiding in POMPAIMADU, west of VAVUNIYA area and fired at them on Friday. As the firing by the troops continued, terrorists fled the area leaving behind the dead body of one LTTE terrorist and some of the items they were using. Two T-56 MK II weapons, one T-56 MK III weapon, five magazines, nine hand grenades, one night vision device, one Global Possessing System, three dog tags, one belt order, three LTTE made packs, one area map and several ration items were among them.

     Similar search and clear operations by the troops in RAMANATHANPURAM, PULLIYANPOKANAI, KATKULKAM and RANCHIKULAM areas recovered six 1.5 kg claymore mines, one M-16 weapon, four magazines, one T-56 weapon, six anti personnel mines, twenty seven hand grenades, one thermo baric weapon, twelve Bangalore torpedoes, twelve hand grenades and seven RPG bombs, one anti personnel mine and twenty-seven hand grenades.

     At the same time, another large stock of weaponry was found by the troops from the general areas of VISUAMADU, VELLAMULLIVAIKKAL, PUTHUKUDIRIPPU, AMPALAVANPOKKANAI, SINNAVILLU and VAVNATHIVU Friday (12).

     Fifty-eight 81 mm mortar bombs, seven silencer weapons, four signal pistols, two 9 mm pistols, one 22 LR pistol, two 45 mm pistols, three CZ 100 pistols, two CZ 100 pistol magazines, two modified T-56 weapons, nine T-97 Light Machine Guns, one 0.22 weapon, some parts of an unidentified weapon, two 12.7 mm weapons, two tripods, one thousand and five hundred and forty five rounds of 12.7 mm ammunition, six 12.7 mm drums, three hundred and twenty rounds of ammunition, two thousand and seven hundred and eighty-three rounds of unidentified ammunition, thirteen rocket propelled granades, ten RPG bombs, one T-56 MK II weapon, two T-56 MK III weapons, one pistol, twenty-seven rounds of pistol ammunition, six thousand five hundred and sixty four rounds of MPMG ammunition, fifteen hand grenades, two MPMG ammunition boxes, two T-56 ammunition boxes, one 12.7 ammunition boxes, one hundred and thirty 12.7 ammunition rounds, six MPMG links, seventeen 60 mm mortar bombs, seven RPG heat bombs, twelve RPG bombs, seven RPG bomb chargers, six maps, two anti personnel mines, one T-56 LMG weapon, eleven T-56 MK I weapon, four T-56 MK II weapons, fifteen T-56 magazines, twenty-two RPG bombs, two RPG weapons, ten RPG chargers, twenty-one 60 mm bombs, one 5 kg claymore mines, six RPG weapons, one flack jacket, one thermobaric weapon, five Argus hand grenades, five 81 trappings, twenty-five I-com radio sets, one monitoring set, one thousand nine hundred and fifteen rounds of T-56 ammunition, one RPG sight, thirty-four 60 mm mortar heats, nine Argus bombs, four RPG heats, five GPMG links, one thousand and thirty-three 12.7 mm ammunition, fourteen boat engines, twenty-five artillery charger bags, two trapping tubes, two LTTE radio sets, twenty-one anti personnel mines, one RPG heat, two hand grenades, twelve Arul bombs and one T-56 weapon were among them.
