Education Ministry Donates Goods Worth Rs.137 Million to Children in Relief Villages

MINISTRY OF EDUCATION under the guidance of the Presidential Task Force and on special instructions from Minister of Education Susil Premajayantha launched a special programme, named “Nenasa Sathkaraya” to provide material resources, human resources and learning needs of about 60,000 school children and about 10,000 academic and non-academic staff, attached to the Ministry who were rescued through Wanni Humanitarian Operations.

The programme is implemented in several stages on a long term basis. As the first stage, a stock of goods worth Rs. 137 million was sent to Vavuniya on 2nd June to provide needs of those people. Those goods twenty lorry loads of needs contained 500 teacher tables and chairs, 5000 children’s tables and 5000 children’s chairs, 5000 sets of infant items, school uniforms, clothes for teachers, text books, extra reading materials, pens, pencils and other items needed for school children. 

Those goods are to be distributed among children in relief villages on 5th June with the participation of Education Minister and several other Ministers. In addition, conduct of special revision classes in relief villages and distribution of educational equipment among about 6000 students who are going to sit for the GCE A/L examination in August is also scheduled to take place.
