MORE THAN 30,000 TRAPPED CIVILIANS RESCUED

MULLAITTIVU:
AN ESTIMATED thirty-six thousand nine hundred and eighty-five (36985) trapped civilians were rescued by Army troops during Saturday (16) as the stream of exodus intensified following the Army's opening of a new escape route across the NANTHI KADAL lagoon. 

Some 30,000 civilians have reached the 59 Division troops commanded by Brigadier PRASANNA DE SILVA.

4328 Civilians approached the area under 53 Division and 2657 more civilians reached troops under 58 Division for safety.
