Massive Military Hardware Found from Former Tiger Strongholds

MULLAITTIVU: ARMY troops continued their attacks on LTTE positions inflicting heavy damages among the terrorists on Wednesday (29) while progressing in the final rescue operation in the VALAYANMADAM-KARAYANMULLIVAIKKAL areas.

     Troops using small fire and snipers took several targets bringing the LTTE death toll to over a dozen, ground troops confirmed. A few soldiers also sustained injuries in the enemy-fire.

     Meanwhile, troops engaged in search and clear operations in KUPPILANKULAM, PUTUMATTALAN, MANKULAM, KARYALLAMULAIVAIKKAL, KOKAVIL and AMPAKAMAM areas recovered one 106 mm RCL weapon with tripod, one 130 mm canon barrel, one 12.7 gun barrel, one Multi Purpose Machine Gun (MPMG) barrel, one 81 mm mortar bipod,  one 60 mm mortar bipod, three claymore mines, three Rocket Propelled Guns (RPG), one MPMG weapon, two T-56 magazines, one hundred and thirty seven  60 mm mortar bombs, forty nine 81 mm mortar bombs, seventeen  82 mm mortar booby traps, one hundred and fifty two 81 mm mortar cartridges, fourteen 120 mm mortar cartridges, ten Improvised Explosive Devices (IED), ninety-eight 12.7 ammunitions, two hundred and thirty-five 12.7mm ammunition noses, eight thousand two hundred and nine T-56 ammunition, one box of 12.7 mm  ammunition, two hundred and sixty-three anti personnel mines, one booby trap made using 81 mm mortar, twenty-nine hand grenades, one pressure mine, two hundred and sixty MPMG ammunition, one hundred and twenty pedal ammunition rounds, thirty-five smoke grenades, four claymore mine remote controls, one Bangalore torpedo, five salmon tins filled with explosives, fifty-five electric detonators, one boat engine with 95 horse power capacity, 50 kg of explosives, 7 kg of C-4 explosives, 100 m safety wire, five claymore stands, 100 m detonator code, eight belt orders, nineteen pouches, forty claymore mine cases, two hundred and ten suicide jackets switches, 50 kg of iron balls, two hundred IED switches, three maps, one gas mask, two caps, three water bottles and one helmet  on the same day (29). 

     Meanwhile, search and clear operations conducted by army troops in KUCHCHANAMALE and KATTANKUDY areas in the east recovered two 82 mm mortar bombs, four hand grenades, three T-56 magazines, one hundred and three rounds of T-56 ammunition, one T-56 weapon, one SLR weapon, one SLR magazine, eight rounds of SLR ammunition, one anti personnel mine, one Motorola phone and one battery of a radio set on Wednesday (29).
