Sri Lanka Army Pays Last Respects to Brigadier G.V Elapatha (Retd) VSV

The military funeral of Brigadier G.V Elapatha (Retd) VSV of the Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps, who dedicated over 28 years serving the country, took place on Monday (28 April) evening at General Cemetery, Minuwanpitiya, Panadura.

Retired Senior Officers, Principal Staff Officers, Senior Officers and Directors, paid their last respects to the late Senior Officer. According to military traditions, troops received the remains, presenting arms near the cemetery entrance, before placing the draped coffin on the gun carriage, adorned with the National flag.

As the funeral procession reached the main entrance, a representative gathering of Senior Officers formally received the coffin, leading the way toward the crematorium with family members following behind.

During the solemn occasion, the formal Special Part I Order issued by the Adjutant General of the Sri Lanka Army was read out to the mourners. Afterward, the troops honoured the deceased Senior Officer with a symbolic gun salute, the highest tribute a military officer could receive upon demise.

Following the Last Post bugle call, signifying the soldier's final rest, the remains were taken to the crematorium. Shortly after, Major General K.V.N.P Premaratne RSP USP psc, the Adjutant General of the Sri Lanka Army, presented the bereaved family with decorations and medals earned by Brigadier G.V Elapatha (Retd) VSV during his illustrious career, following a customary tradition in the armed forces.

The funeral ceremony was attended by Senior Officers, Retired Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks, and family members of Brigadier G.V Elapatha (Retd) VSV.
