Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, Commander of the Army, graced the Army Colours Night 2025, held on 01st April 2025 at the Grand Maitland, Colombo 07.
Upon his arrival, the Commander of the Army was welcomed by Major General M.G.W.W.W.M.C.B Wickramasinghe RWP RSP ndu psc, Chief of Staff and Chairman of Army Sports, accompanied by other Senior Officers.
The ceremony commenced with the recitation of the Army Song, followed by two minutes of silence to honour the fallen war heroes. Subsequently, the Chairman of the Army Sports Committee delivered the welcome address.
During the event, the Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, the Deputy Chief of Staff and the Chief of Staff presented Colour Insignias and certificates to the deserving recipients. Later, the Commander of the Army bestowed Colour Insignias and certificates upon selected awardees in recognition of their exceptional contributions.
Significantly, 120 athletes from 26 sports disciplines were honoured with colours, acknowledging their outstanding achievements at international, national and Army levels.
Towards the conclusion of the event, the Chairman of the Army Sports Committee presented a memento to the Commander of the Army as a gesture of appreciation.
The ceremony concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by the Director of Sports, marking the end of a memorable and dignified evening attended by Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks.
