On 24 March 2025, Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, Commander of the Army, commenced a two day visit of the Jaffna Peninsula.
Upon his arrival at Security Force Headquarters (Jaffna), the Army Chief was warmly welcomed by Major General Y.A.B.M. Yahampath RWP RSP ndu psc, Commander, Security Forces (Jaffna).
The Commander of the Army paid his respects at the Sri Nagavihara Temple, where he received blessings from Ven. Meegahajandure Siriwimala Thero. He also met Very Rev. Fr. P. Josephdas Jebarathan, the Vicar General of the Diocese of Jaffna, at the Bishop’s House in Jaffna. Subsequently, he paid homage at Nallur Kovil and received blessings from Chief Priest Maikundal Swami Kurukkal.
Later, the Army Chief interacted with the inmates of the Sri Lanka Army's wellness centres, who were on a visit to the Jaffna, at the Thalsevana Army Welfare Resort in Kankesanturai.
At the evening, the Army Chief attended the foundation stone-laying ceremony of the Varany Ontrium-U.K. Pavilion at Varany Central College, Jaffna. The construction will be carried out by troops from the 523 Infantry Brigade and the 5th Engineer Services Regiment, under the guidance of the General Officer Commanding of the 52 Infantry Division.
The following day, the Army Chief inaugurated a newly constructed house at Kodikamam South, Jaffna, for Mr. Thureisinham Rajindas and his family. The house was constructed with the assistance of troops from the 7th Battalion of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment.
The two-day tour concluded with a visit toss 52 Infantry Division. There, the Commander addressed Officers and Other Ranks deployed in the area, emphasising the critical importance of operational readiness, efficient administration and personnel welfare. He also participated in an engaging interactive session with both Officers and Other Ranks.
Principal Staff Officers, Directors, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks participated in the events.
