Cornerstone Lays for New Housing Project in Poonagala

Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, Commander of the Army, attended to lay the cornerstone for a new housing project in Poonagala, Bandarawela, on 15 March 2025. The initiative, undertaken by the Ministry of Plantation and Community Infrastructure, will be carried out by troops of the 11 Engineer Service Regiment of the Sri Lanka Army.

K.V Samantha Vidyarathna, the Minister of Plantation and Community Infrastructure graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. This project aims to provide new homes for 50 families displaced by a landslide that occurred in the area two years ago. In the first phase, 10 houses will be completed, marking a crucial step in the rehabilitation and resettlement of the affected families.

The ceremony was attended by the Governor Uva Province, Members of Parliament, Government Officials, Senior Officers, and residents in the area.
