Major General J.P.C. Peiris RWP RSP ndc was invited to the Office of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, on 14 March 2025, together with his family members, prior to his retirement from the Sri Lanka Army after completing a distinguished career spanning 36 years.
During the meeting, the Army Chief commended the Senior Officer for his unwavering dedication and exemplary performance in various challenging roles throughout his tenure, both during the war against terrorism and in the post-war era. He also acknowledged the pivotal role played by the Senior Officer’s dedicated family in supporting his career.
Brief Profile of the Retiring Senior Officer:
Major General J.P.C. Peiris RWP RSP ndc enlisted in the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army under Intake 32 as an Officer Cadet on 14 July 1989. Upon successfully completing military training at the Sri Lanka Military Academy, Diyatalawa, he was commissioned in the rank of Second Lieutenant and posted to the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment on 19 January 1991. Subsequently, the Senior Officer was transferred to the Special Forces on 01 February 1991.
Progressing steadily through the ranks during his service in the Army, he was promoted to the rank of Major General on 03 August 2022. The Senior Officer will retire from the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army with effect from 19 March 2025 upon reaching 55 years of age. At the time of his retirement, he held the appointments of Commander, Security Forces (Wanni), and Colonel of the Regiment, Special Forces Regiment.
He held various appointments during his career, including Platoon Commander of the 1st Battalion Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, Group Commander of the 1st Regiment Special Forces, Second-in-Command of A Squadron 1st Regiment Special Forces, Officer Commanding of A Squadron 1st Regiment Special Forces, Officer Commanding of Support Squadron 1st Regiment Special Forces, Senior Instructor at the Special Forces Training School, Second-in-Command of the 3rd Regiment Special Forces, Second-in-Command of the 1st Regiment Special Forces, Commanding Officer of the 2nd Regiment Special Forces and the 4th Regiment Special Forces, Commandant of the Special Forces Training School, General Staff Officer 1 Operations and Training at the Regimental Centre Special Forces, General Staff Officer 1 Local Training at the Directorate of Training Army Headquarters, Contingent Commander of the Sri Lanka Force Protection Company in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, Deputy Centre Commandant of the Regimental Centre Special Forces, Centre Commandant of the Regimental Centre Special Forces, Commander of the Special Forces Brigade, Brigadier General Staff at Headquarters 1 Corps, General Officer Commanding of the 57 Infantry Division, Colonel of the Regiment Special Forces Regiment and Commander Security Forces Wanni.
In recognition of his bravery in the face of the enemy, the Senior Officer was awarded the Rana Wickrama Padakkama and the Rana Sura Padakkama.
The Senior Officer has completed numerous local and foreign courses during his military career, including the Special Forces Basic Course, Special Mission Team Course, Basic Intelligence Course, Regimental Signal Officers Course, Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol Course, Unit Accounting Officers Course, Battalion Support Weapons Officers Course, Computer Course, Commanding Officers Course and the Parachute Basic Course in India. Additionally, he has attended the Junior Command Course in India, the Intermediate Command Programme in China and the National Defence College Course in India.
