Commander of the Army Visits Security Forces (Wanni)

Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, Commander of the Army, visited Security Forces (Wanni) on 08th February 2025.

Major General J.P.C Peiris RWP RSP ndc, Commander, Security Forces (Wanni), warmly welcomed the Army Chief upon his arrival. He was then accorded a formal Guard Turnout by the SFHQ(W) troops.

Afterwards, the Commander of the Army laid a floral wreath in memory of Fallen War Heroes at the monument dedicated to war heroes. This was followed by group photographs to commemorate the occasion.

During the visit, the Army Chief participated in a comprehensive briefing conducted by General Staff Officer I (Operations), where he was updated on ongoing operations and initiatives in the area.

Addressing the troops, the Army Chief shared valuable insights and encouraged personnel to continue their exemplary service with dedication and pride as a proud citizen. His speech emphasised the importance of unity, discipline, and continuous development within the Armed Forces. He also highlighted the role of every officer and soldier as not only defenders of the nation but also role models in society. Further, he stressed the importance of maintaining high moral standards both on and off duty.

Furthermore, he advised against engaging in negative habits that could tarnish their reputation, particularly warning against the dangers of online gambling. He urged personnel to remain focused on their professional responsibilities and avoid distractions that could compromise their well-being, discipline, and overall effectiveness as members of the Armed Forces.

Later on, Commander, Security Forces (Wanni), presented a commemorative plaque to the Commander of the Army and the gesture was reciprocated.

A highlight of the visit was the formal handing over the keys of a newly renovated house by the Commander of the Army to Mr. S.D Suresh Kumara and his family, who reside in the Atambagaskada area of Vavuniya. The house was constructed with financial contributions from Sudharmaramaya Maha Viharaya and the workforce assistance of skilled troops from the Corps of Engineer Services under the guidance of the Commander, Security Forces (Wanni). This initiative provided much-needed support to a deserving family.

Following this, the Army Chief visited Sudharmaramaya Maha Viharaya and met Venerable Atambagaskada Kalyana Thissa Abhidana Nayaka Thero, the Chief Incumbent of the Viharaya. He also visited the Madukanda Sri Dalada Viharaya premises and met Venerable Muwatagama Ananda Thero, the Chief Incumbent of the Viharaya to receive blessings.

Later, the Army Chief attended an All Ranks lunch and subsequently visited the Officers’ Mess, where he addressed the officers and signed the visitors’ book in remembrance of his visit.
