New GOC of the 54 Infantry Division Assumes his Office

Brigadier A.M.C.P Wijayaratne RWP RSP nps psc assumed duties as the new General Officer Commanding(GOC) of 54 Infantry Division during a brief ceremony held at the 54 Infantry Division Headquarters premises Mannar on 17th January 2025.

In accordance with military traditions, upon arrival at the premises he reviewed the Guard Turnout presented by 4th Battalion the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment. As the first segment of the day’s proceedings, the incoming GOC paid tribute to the memory of fallen War Heroes at the monument in Division Headquarter.

The newly appointed GOC arrived at his new office and penned his signature in official document to signify the acceptance of his new responsibilities as General Officer Commanding, amidst the religious blessing. (Buddhist, Catholic, Islam and Hindu).

The General Officer Commanding then posed for a group photograph with the Senior Officers and Officers serving under the Division Headquarters. Adding to the memories of the day he planted a mango sapling in front of the 54 Infantry Division Office Complex.

Setting out his scope of work and duties, he formally addressed Officers and Other Ranks and urged them to work with commitment while maintaining high standards of discipline before sharing a cup of tea with All Ranks.

Then he participated in a comprehensive briefing conducted by the Staff Officers of the 54 Infantry Division. Finally he joined with Officers in a lunch at the Officers Mess.

The Commanders of the 541, 542 and 543 Infantry Brigades, Commanding Officers, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks were associated with the day’s inauguration at the office.
