In honour of this auspicious day, I extend my compliments to the Hindu community of Sri Lanka and to All Ranks of the Sri Lanka Army celebrating Thai Pongal.

This festival, held in tribute to the Sun, Mother Nature and her bountiful harvests, signifies a new beginning to Hindus and is a poignant reminder of the resources and the environment we are bound to protect. As we honour the rich traditions of Thai Pongal, let us take a moment to appreciate the blessings that surround us and be grateful for the generosity of nature as well as of the people who enrich our lives.
