Under the guidance of Security Forces (Jaffna), 51 Infantry Division conducted its Annual Christmas Carols Service at St. Mary’s Cathedral, Jaffna on 24 December 2024 in order to commemorate Christmas and the dawn of New Year.
Major General Y.A.B.M Yahampath RWP RSP ndu psc, Commander, Security Forces (Jaffna) graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Rt. Rev. Dr. Justin Bernad Gnanapragasam, Bishop of Jaffna dignified the event with his honourable presence at the invitation of Major General M.P.N.A Muthumala USP psc, General Officer Commanding of 51 Infantry Division.
This annual programme was initiated to cultivate social and cultural awareness within the communities living in the Jaffna peninsula, in order to certify sustainable reconciliation among the public.
A number of events added to the programme such as carols, stage plays and songs with the live music of Corps of Engineer Services brass band elevating the festive atmosphere.
More than 400 gift packs, sweets and toys were given away to the children to make a memorable Christmas celebration with the contribution of 511, 512, 513 Infantry Brigades and the under command Battalions.
Mr. L. Ilaangovan, Chief Secretary of the Northern Province, Mr. M. Piratheepan, District Secretary of Jaffna, Senior Officers from Air Force and Police, Officers, Other Ranks and thousands of devotees participated in the event.
