The final presentation by Officer Cadets of the Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA) was held on Friday (20) evening at the ‘Sino-Lanka Friendship’ auditorium in Diyatalawa. The event, taking place just hours before their Passing Out Parade (PoP), was attended by the Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General K.P.A. Jayasekara (Retd) WWV RSP VSV USP ndc psc, as the Chief Guest. Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army, along with Mrs. Janaki Liyanage, President of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit, also participated in the ceremony.
The presentation, a mandatory component of the Cadets’ training, focused on the theme "Threats Posed by Transnational Crimes to Sri Lanka and South Asia: The Role of Security Forces." This research-based thesis highlighted the Cadets’ comprehensive study of the subject, emphasising security challenges and proposing potential responses.
As future decision makers, the Officer Cadets were required to present their findings before a panel of scholars and military academics for evaluation. Following the presentation, an interactive question-and-answer session facilitated constructive feedback from the attending experts, further enhancing the Cadets’ analytical and presentation skills.
The ceremony also featured the launch of the latest edition of the SLMA Journal, led by Major General U.L.J.S. Perera RSP USP psc, the Commandant of SLMA. The first copy was formally presented to the Deputy Minister of Defence, the Commander of the Army, and other distinguished guests. Concluding the event, the Deputy Minister of Defence shared his observations and commended the Cadets for their in-depth research and professional presentation.
Defence Attachés, Major General W.P.A.D.W. Nanayakkara RSP VSV USP ndu, Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army and Colonel of the Regiment of the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, Senior Officers, Retired Commandants of SLMA, and faculty members of SLMA were also among the participants.
