Under the guidance of Major General K.H.M.S Wickramaratne RSP, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 53 Infantry Division, a volleyball tournament was conducted by the troops of the 53 Infantry Division from 12 to 15 December 2024 at the 53 Infantry Division volleyball ground.
Out of 16 participating teams, the final match of the tournament was contested between the 3rd Battalion of Gajaba Regiment (3 GR) and the 6th Battalion of Sri Lanka Light Infantry (6 SLLI) teams. The 3 GR emerged victorious, securing the prestigious "GOC’s Challenging Trophy," while the 6 SLLI claimed the runners-up position.
Individual accolades highlighted exceptional performances throughout the tournament. Lance Corporal J.A.N. Jayasundara of the 6 SLLI was recognized as the Best Attacker, while Private N.A. Bagawattage earned the title of Best Setter. Private D.R. Kapugamage of the 3 GR was honored as the tournament's Best Player for his outstanding contributions.
