Under the direction of Major General J.P.C Peiris RWP RSP ndc, the Commander Security Forces (W), a humanitarian aid programme was launched to assist the families displaced due to adverse weather conditions in the Vavuniya District on 29 November 2024. The initiative was sponsored by Manusath Derana and philanthropist Mr. Mahesh Jayawardena.
During the programme, essential dry rations were distributed among 117 individuals temporarily sheltered at Kandasaminagar Vipulananda Vidyalaya and Kallaru Sri Sitthi Vinayagar Vidyalaya.
This timely intervention aimed to alleviate the immediate hardships faced by displaced families residing in the 208 B area in the Vavuniya Regional Secretariat Division, reflecting a proactive and compassionate approach to disaster relief.
The operation was executed under the supervision of Major General M.P.N.A Muthumala USP psc, General Officer Commanding 56 Infantry Division, with the assistance from Colonel T.W.G D.M Amarasinghe RSP psc, Commander 562 Infantry Brigade and Commanding Officer of the 17th Battalion of Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment.
Subsequently, under the supervision and guidance of the General Officer Commanding 59 Infantry Division Major General D.R.N Hettiarachi RWP RSP USP, a dry ration donation programme was held at Mannakandal Grama Niladhari Office for 200 civilians who were affected in floods due to adverse weather conditions in Wasanthanpuram.
The sponsorship for the initiative was extended by Manusath Derana and Dialog Axiata and Battalions deployed under the 593 Infantry Brigade the 6th Gemunu Watch organized the event. General Officer Commanding 59 Infantry Division, Mr S Jayakanthan Assistant Divisional Secretary Puddukkudirippu, Mr. Gokularaj Assistant Director Disaster Management Centre -Mullaittivu and staff of Manusath Derana and Dialog Axiata participated in the event.
