Army Chief Visits Army Base Hospital, Kandy

Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army, made an official visit to the Army Base Hospital in Kandy on 09 November 2024 to review its operational aspects and receive updates on its current functionality.

Upon arrival, the Army Chief was honoured in a drive pass and formally welcomed by Lieutenant Colonel W.M.H.S Weerasuriya, the Commanding Officer of the Army Base Hospital - Kandy. The Commanding Officer then provided an in-depth briefing on the hospital’s services and facilities. Following this, the Commander of the Army toured the new hospital complex, inspecting its operational areas and assessing possibilities for ensuring its optimal maintenance.

Following the completion of its construction, the hospital promptly began its operations to serve Army personnel, ex-service personnel, and their families, on the directions of the Commander of the Army. This visit marked the Army Chief’s inaugural inspection of the facility since its activation.

Currently, the hospital has a capacity of 122 beds for inpatients and offers a range of services, including OPD services, prosthetic and orthotic services for those with disabilities, clinical services for various diseases, dental care, a fully equipped operating theatre with modern medical equipment and pharmaceutical facilities.

The Army Chief later joined an All Ranks tea and penned complimentary notes in the visitors’ book.

The Chief of Staff, Deputy Chief of Staff, Adjutant General, Commander Security Forces (Central), Director General Army Health Services, General Officer Commanding of 11 Infantry Division, Director Engineer Services, Director Army Medical Services, Director Army Dental Services, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks participated in the visit.
