Major General W.M.S.C.K Wanasinghe RSP USP, General Officer Commanding of the 21 Infantry Division, made his first official visit as the 17th Colonel of the Regiment of the Mechanized Infantry Regiment to the Mechanized Infantry Training Centre (MITC) and the 2nd Mechanized Infantry Regiment (2 MIR) on 12 October 2024.
Upon his arrival, he was warmly welcomed by the Overlooking Commandant of the Mechanized Infantry Training Centre, Lieutenant Colonel D.N.S. Perera psc, and the Commanding Officer of the 2nd Mechanized Infantry Regiment, Lieutenant Colonel P.V.R.P. Kumara RSP USP psc, with a traditional Guard Turnout.
During his visit, Major General Wanasinghe addressed the troops of both the Mechanized Infantry Training Centre and the 2nd Mechanized Infantry Regiment, emphasizing the importance of the role of a mechanized soldier.
He later conducted a comprehensive camp visit and inspect the operational and administrative activities at both headquarters.
To commemorate the occasion, the Colonel of the Regiment was invited to plant a sapling at both headquarters, leaving behind a lasting memory of his visit.
The Colonel of the Regiment was accompanied by the Centre Commandant of the Mechanized Infantry Regimental Centre, Brigadier A.K. Peiris RSP, and the Commander of the Mechanized Infantry Brigade, Brigadier H.A.A.N.C. Prabhath RSP USP, along with other Senior Officers and staff during the visit.
