Volunteer Force Bids Farewell to Outgoing Deputy Commandant Major General W.G.P. Sisira Kumara RSP

After an illustrious tenure as the 33rd Deputy Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF), Major General W.G.P. Sisira Kumara RSP officially relinquished his duties and retired from the Sri Lanka Army on 8th October 2024. His farewell was marked by a series of military honors at the SLAVF Headquarters.

Upon the arrival, he was received by the Principal Staff Officer, the Centre Commandant of the Sri Lanka National Guard, and the Commanding Officer of the Headquarters Battalion of the Volunteer Force. The farewell proceedings commenced with the traditional Guard Turnout presented in his honour.

Accompanied by Senior Officers, the outgoing Deputy Commandant of SLAVF proceeded to the monument of late Captain Saliya Aladeniya PWV, where he laid a floral wreath and paid tribute to the fallen War Heroes who sacrificed their lives for the nation.

Brigadier J.M.T.N.B. Karunathilaka, Inspector of Training of the SLAVF, then escorted the outgoing Deputy Commandant to the saluting dais, where he received a Guard of Honour from the troops of the Sri Lanka National Guard amidst the sounds of patriotic songs.

Later,Major General W.G.P. Sisira Kumara RSP unveiled his portrait at his office as a lasting souvenir of his service. During a special troop address at the Rendezvous Pavilion, he expressed his sincere gratitude for the cooperation and dedication of the SLAVF staff in achieving the objectives of his tenure.

Following the address, he posed for a group photograph with the Headquarters staff of the Volunteer Force, marking the end of his official duties.

As Major General W.G.P. Sisira Kumara RSP departed, Officers and Other Ranks lined both sides of the road leading to the Main Gate, bidding him farewell with heartfelt good-bye cheers.

The day concluded with a formal farewell dinner hosted by the SLAVF at the Officers’ Mess, Regimental Centre of the Sri Lanka Artillery, in recognition of 36 years distinguished service of Major General W.G.P. Sisira Kumara RSP.
