Major General W.G.P. Sisira Kumara RSP, Deputy Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, was invited to the office of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, on 03 October 2024, along with his family, before his retirement from the Sri Lanka Army.
During the meeting, the Army Chief commended the Senior Officer for his unwavering dedication and exemplary performance in various challenging roles throughout his career, both during the war and in the post-war era. The Commander of the Army also acknowledged the pivotal role played by his family in supporting him throughout his career. In response, Major General W.G.P. Sisira Kumara RSP expressed profound gratitude for the steadfast guidance and support provided by the Army Chief. At the conclusion of the interaction, the Commander of the Army presented a special memento to the retiring Senior Officer as a symbol of appreciation and commendation, along with gifts for his family.

Major General W.G.P. Sisira Kumara RSP enlisted in the Volunteer Force of the Sri Lanka Army as an Officer Cadet on 07 January 1988. Upon successfully completing military training at the Sri Lanka Military Academy - Diyatalawa, he was commissioned in the rank of Second Lieutenant and posted to the Sri Lanka Light Infantry on 17 June 1988. After being steadily elevated to subsequent ranks during his span of service in the Army, he was promoted to the rank of Major General on 25 April 2024. The Senior Officer will retire from the Volunteer Force of the Sri Lanka Army with effect from 08 October 2024, upon reaching 57 years of age.
Throughout his career, he held various key appointments, including Platoon Commander of the 5th (Volunteer) Battalion - Sri Lanka Light Infantry, Officer Commanding of the 9th (Volunteer) Battalion - Sri Lanka Light Infantry, Second-in-Command of the 9th (Volunteer) Battalion - Sri Lanka Light Infantry, Commanding Officer of the 9th (Volunteer) Battalion of the Sri Lanka National Guard, Liaison Officer of Regimental Headquarters - Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps, Liaison Officer of Regimental Headquarters - Sri Lanka Light Infantry, Colonel Coordinating Officer (Volunteer) of the Headquarters 24 Infantry Division, Colonel Coordinating Officer (Volunteer) of Headquarters 68 Infantry Division, Colonel Training Officer of Headquarters Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, Commanding Officer of the 1st Battalion Sri Lanka Rifle Corps, Colonel Coordinating Officer (Volunteer) of Security Force Headquarters (Jaffna), Brigadier Coordinating Officer (Volunteer) of Security Force Headquarters (Jaffna), Brigadier Coordinating Officer (Volunteer) of Security Force Headquarters (West), Inspector of Training of Headquarters Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, and Deputy Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force.
He has been awarded the Rana Sura Padakkama for his bravery on the battlefield. The Senior Officer has completed numerous local and foreign courses during his military career, including the Platoon Commanders Course (Weapon Phase), Platoon Commanders Course (Tactics Phase), Platoon Commanders Course (Endurance Phase), Assault Pioneer Course, Human Resource Management Course, Regimental Accounts and Book Keeping Course, Second-in-Command Course, Junior Staff Course, Basic Parachute Training Course and Junior Command Course - India.
