The inauguration of HE Anura Kumara Dissanayake as the 9th Executive President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces took place on 23 September 2024 at the Presidential Secretariat.
Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army attended the event.
During the ceremony, HE the President Anura Kumara Dissanayake was sworn in before Jayantha Jayasuriya, Hon. Chief Justice of Sri Lanka. Following the oath-taking, members of the Maha Sangha present in the Presidential Secretariat chanted ‘Seth Pirith’ to invoke blessings as the new President officially signed to accept his new office.
In his address to the Nation, the new President said that “We need to establish a new clean political culture and I commit to achieve this target and we will do the utmost to win back the people’s respect and trust in the political system.”
Foreign Ambassadors, Parliamentarians, Chief of Defence Staff, the Commander of the Navy, the Commander of the Air Force and several other State Officials participated in the event.
