Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) bade farewell to Major General W.P.A.D.W. Nanayakkara RSP VSV USP ndu, the outgoing Commandant of SLAVF, during a brief ceremony on 14 September 2024 at the SLAVF premises in Kosgama.
The outgoing Commandant was warmly welcomed by the Deputy Commandant of SLAVF followed by a Guard Turnout and Guard of Honour presented by troops of the Sinha Regiment. Later, the Senior Officer paid tribute by laying a wreath at the memorial of the late Captain Saliya Aladeniya PWV.
Subsequently, he signed the official document marking the end of his tenure at SLAVF and recorded his thoughts and well-wishes in the visitors' book in his office. The Senior Officer then unveiled his portrait at the office as a commemorative gesture and posed for group photographs with the staff. Then, the Senior Officer addressed troops.
Later, the outgoing Commandant was presented with a memento in appreciation of his distinguished service to SLAVF. In addition, he presented a cheque worth Rs. 170,000.00 to Colonel J.A.J. Jayaratne KSP, the Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force Training School, to facilitate the purchase of a television, which is a much-needed requirement for the SLAVFTS gymnasium.
Senior Officers, Officers, and Other Ranks of SLAVF were also present at the event.
