Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army, inaugurated the newly constructed Welfare Facility Complex at the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) Headquarters on 11 September 2024.
The two-story complex, equipped with modern amenities including a food city, bakery and restaurant, will provide essential facilities to troops at concessionary prices. The construction was completed with the workforce and technical support provided by troops of the 10 Corps of Engineer Services and SLAVF.
The day’s proceedings began with a warm welcome extended to the Chief Guest by Major General W.P.A.D.W Nanayakkara RSP VSV USP ndu, Commandant, SLAVF, accompanied by Major General W.G.P Sisira Kumara, Deputy Commandant, SLAVF. The Commander of the Army ceremonially opened the facility by unveiling a commemorative plaque, with blessings of the Maha Sangha.
The traditional oil lamp was lit by the distinguished guests, further enhancing the auspiciousness of the event. Following the formalities, the Commander of the Army toured the new facility. To commemorate the occasion, a group photograph was taken with the Chief Guest, followed by an all-rank tea session at the Rendezvous Pavilion.
The event concluded with the Commandant, SLAVF presenting a special memento to the Chief Guest to mark his visit. The Army Chief then addressed the troops, emphasising the Army's commitment to enhancing welfare of its members through the provision of such facilities.
Major General E.M.M Fernando Hdmc Lsc AATO, Commander - Headquarters Logistic Command, Director Engineer Services - Army Headquarters, Senior Officers, Officers, and Other Ranks of the SLAVF were present at the ceremony.
