Warrant Officer II K.A. Samitha Dulan Kodithuwakku of the Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police achieved a remarkable feat at the Paris Paralympics, held on 2 September 2024. In the men’s F44 javelin throw event, he won a silver medal with a record-breaking throw of 67.03 meters, setting a new world record in his category.
In recognition of this outstanding achievement, he was invited to the Office of the Commander of the Army on 10 September 2024, the same day he arrived in Sri Lanka. During the meeting, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army, expressed deep admiration for his exceptional performance, which has brought immense pride to both the country and the Army. Commander of the Army also stated that WO II Kodithuwkku has set a great example to be followed by all sportsmen and sportswomen.
The Army Chief also commended him for his remarkable determination and perseverance. In appreciation of his international success, the Army Chief presented him with special memento and financial incentives, extending best wishes for his future endeavours. The Army Commander also highly appreciated the hard work and correct guidance of the Coach, Mr. Pradeep Nishantha and presented him with a special memento.
Brigadier L.K.T Fernando RSP USP, Director Sports and Brigadier H.M.S.I Senarath, Centre Commandant, Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police were present at the event.
