The newly constructed pagoda at Sapumalgaskada Viharaya, Bogaswewa, Vavuniya, was declared open on 31 August 2024. General Kamal Gunaratne (Rtd) WWV RWP RSP USP ndc psc MPhil, Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
Upon his arrival, Secretary to the Ministry of Defence was warmly welcomed by Major General W.P.A.D.W Nanayakkara RSP VSV USP ndu, Commandant of Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Forces, Major General J.P.C Peiris RWP RSP ndc, Commander Security Forces (Wanni), and the General Officer Commanding of the 56 Infantry Division.
During the ceremony, the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence unveiled the pinnacle of the Sapumal pagoda and the ‘Dana Salawa,’ amidst the chanting of pirith by the maha sangha, led by Galgamuwe Shanthabodhi Nayaka Thero, Chief Incumbent of the Sapumalgaskada Viharaya. The event concluded with the Secretary and other invitees offering flowers to the newly constructed Sapumal pagoda.
Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks, members of Boshath Paramitha Padanama and Sasunketha Aswaddamu organizations, villages and pilgrims participated in the event.
