As part of the ongoing Mithra Shakthi Joint Military Exercise, troops of India and Sri Lanka engaged in a friendly cricket match at the Army Training School in Maduru Oya on 21 August 2024 aiming to foster camaraderie and cooperation between the two nations.
Commander of the 59 Infantry Division and Director of the Mithra Shakthi Exercise Major General U.K.D.D.P. Udugama RWP RSP USP ndc psc, graced the event as the chief guest.
The match featured with the participation of two teams -'Ash,' and 'Blue,' where each comprised of troops from both nations. Accordingly, Captain W.W.K. Weerasuriya led 'Ash,' team while Captain Karan Vaijanath Masukor' led the Blue,' team. After winning the toss, the 'Blue' team opted to play first, inviting the 'Ash' team to bat. The 'Ash' team put up 69 runs in their allotted 10 overs. The 'Blue' team displaying an impressive performance, managed to surpass the target set by 'Ash' team with 4 wickets emerging victorious.
General Officer Commanding of the 12 Infantry Division and Deputy Director of the Mithra Shakthi Exercise, Major General P.K.W.M.J.S.B.W. Pallekumbura, RWP RSP ndu psc, presented certificates to the winners during the occasion. In the meantime, the Commander of the Indian contingent, Colonel Ravinda Alahawat, awarded Lance Naik Kasim Kureshi of the Indian Army the Player of the Match accolade for his outstanding performance.
Marking the climax of the day, Major General U.K.D.D.P. Udugama RWP RSP USP ndc psc, presented the trophy to the victorious 'Blue' team.
The evening culminated with a group photograph that included officers from both nations, highlighting the unity and shared spirit of partnership.
