Army Chief Graces the SLAC Symposium 2024

The 'Armour Symposium - 2024' was conducted on 19 July 2024 at the Cavalry Mess, Rock House Camp, focusing on the theme of 'Forging Future Frontiers: Empowering Armour through Evaluation and Innovation'. Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army, attended the event as a distinguished guest and was warmly welcomed by Major General S.W.M. Fernando WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc, Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (SLAC).

General G.D.H. Kamal Gunaratne (Rtd) WWV RWP RSP USP ndc psc MPhil, Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil, Chief of Defence Staff, Major General S.R.B. Aluvihare RWP RSP ndu psc, Chief of Staff of the Army, Senior Officers and distinguished guests participated in the occasion.

The symposium aimed to enhance Officers’ knowledge by evaluating the Corps' fighting power, exploring technological advancements, and developing strategies to improve operational effectiveness and human factors. These efforts are crucial in overcoming challenges and deterring future threats to national security.

The event commenced with lighting the traditional oil lamp, followed by a two-minute silence and reciting the Army and Armour Songs. A documentary video related to the symposium was then displayed. The Colonel Commandant of SLAC welcomed the gathering, and then addresses from the Chief Guest and the Keynote Speaker, General J. Jayasuriya (Rtd) RWP VSV USP ndu psc were taken place.

Afterwards, mementoes were presented to the Chief Guest and the Keynote Speaker by the Colonel Commandant of SLAC, and distinguished guests posed for a group photograph to mark the occasion.
