Crocodile Attack Prompts Precautionary Measures in Manik River

A tragic crocodile attack occurred in the Manik River, resulting in the death of a devotee due to injuries on 06 July 2024. In response, an 83-foot long mesh net has been installed across the river to prevent further incidents. This measure was implemented with the support of the Navy, Police, and Wildlife authorities, under the close supervision of the General Officer Commanding of the 12 Infantry Division.

A conference was convened with key stakeholders of the Kataragama festival to ensure comprehensive safety measures. Additionally, a combined security point has been established to enforce safety instructions. These actions aim to protect festival attendees and prevent further unfortunate incidents.
