The newly constructed pagoda at Kattamurichchana, Deepaduththarama Viharaya, Thirappane, was declared open on 22 June 2024. Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
Upon arrival, the Chief Guest was warmly welcomed by Major General W.P.A.D.W Nanayakkara RSP VSV USP ndu, the Commander of Security Forces - Wanni, along with Major General H.H.K.S.S Hewage RWP RSP USP rcds psc, General Officer Commanding of 21 Infantry Division and Mr. Nalinda Herath a member of dhayaka sabha. The welcoming procession included a traditional dancing group, adding a cultural touch to the ceremony.
The highlight of the event was the unveiling of the pagoda’s pinnacle and a special plaque by the Army Chief amidst pirith chanting by the maha sangha including Thalawe Jinarathana Thero, the Chief Incumbent of the viharaya. Following this, the Army Chief presented the Atapirikara (Eight-fold offering) to the newly constructed pagoda at the premises. After lighting the oil lamp, the keynote address was delivered by Mr. Nalinda Herath, who generously donated funds for the construction.
The Commander of the Army also took the opportunity to present tokens of appreciation to individuals who contributed to the construction, acknowledging their efforts and dedication. Special gifts were given to the Army troops who provided manpower for the project, and a donation of Rs. 250,000.00 was made to the Kattamurichchana School to enhance the education of its students. The Army Chief also encouraged the performers who entertained the audience with cultural events.
The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks by a member of the dhayaka sabha and Senior Officers, government agents, and a large number of devotees participated in the occasion.
