Major General W.P.A.D.W. Nanayakkara RSP VSV USP ndu, the Commander Security Forces -Wanni, initiated the project of planting 16,000 cinnamon saplings in the Security Force - Wanni area. This initiative aims to provide a sustainable source of income while improving the economic stability.
The inauguration ceremony of the programme was held at Salalihinigama and Namalgama, Vavuniya, on 11 June 2024. The Commander Security Forces (Wanni) graced the occasion as the chief guest.
Distribution of cinnamon plants to low-income families enhance the livelihoods of impoverished communities in the Security Force - Wanni area. On the request of the farmers in the area, it is planned to distribute saplings for farmers as per their requrement.
General Officer Commanding of 21 and 56 Infantry Divisions, Brigadier General Staff of Security Forces Headquarters (Wanni), Commanders of 211 and 563 Infantry Brigades, Commanding Officers of the 11th Gamunu Watch and 9th Gajaba Regiment, Officers, Government Officials, the President of the Cinnamon Planters’ Association - Vavuniya South, Other Ranks, and beneficiaries from Namalgama and Salalihinigama areas participated in the programme.
