Under the supervision of the Commander of the 613 Infantry Brigade, a rescue mission was conducted at the Athuraliya Medical Officer of Health office on 04 June 2014. A stock of immunization vaccines worth 4.5 million rupees, intended for children aged 1 to 3 years, was securely stored in the office of the Medical Officer of Health on Amalagoda Road, Athuraliya, amidst concerns of flooding from the overflowing Nilwala river.
The Medical Officer of Health Office staff were safely evacuated with the assistance of a WMZ 551B armoured vehicle from the 4 Mechanized Infantry Regiment. Subsequently, the vaccine stock and accompanying staff were transported from Athuraliya to the Akuressa Medical Officer of Health office.
