Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, the Commander of the Army, attended a coordinating conference held on 03 June 2024 at the Kolonnawa Divisional Secretariat to address issues concerning the displaced people due to the flood situation caused by adverse weather condition in the area. Hon. Tiran Alles, Minister of Public Security of Sri Lanka, Parliament members Hon. (Dr.) Sarath Weerasekera and Hon. S.M. Marikkar, Mr. Sagala Ratnayaka, Chief of Staff and Senior Advisor to the President, and the Divisional Secretary of Kolonnawa Divisional Secretariat presided the conference.
The discussion focused on critical issues pertinent to the affected areas. Paramount among these concerns was ensuring the provision of essential sustenance for the displaced people, including adequate food supplies. Moreover, efforts were directed towards the swift restoration of power and communication services, pivotal for maintaining connectivity and coordinating relief efforts effectively.
Additionally, the Commander of the Army stated that the Army would take all necessary steps to support the disaster relief mechanism undertaken by government agencies.
Tri-Forces Commanders, Inspector General of Police, Senior Officers of Tri-Forces, Police Officials and Government Officials participated in the conference.
